In order to fully implement the production policy of "safety first, prevention oriented" and continuously strengthen employees' awareness of fire safety and emergency response capabilities, Jiangxi Yazhan New Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yazhan New Materials") recently conducted monthly fire emergency drills in the production park as scheduled according to the annual safety management plan. From fire response to personnel evacuation, from equipment operation to hazard investigation, the entire process of practical training has once again strengthened the company's safety production "protective net". ​

Practical exercises to restore real emergency scenarios

This drill is based on the principle of "being close to production reality and simulating real dangerous situations". The semi-finished paint warehouse in the factory area was selected as the simulated fire scene - this area is a key control area for the company's fire safety due to the flammable storage materials and dense personnel flow. At 15:00 in the afternoon, the drill officially started: simulating the materials stacked in the warehouse causing "smoke and fire" due to poor ventilation and high local temperature. After the warehouse administrator discovered the danger, he immediately pressed the emergency alarm button on the wall and reported the details of the "fire" to the safety management department through the workshop intercom, including the location of the fire, the type of burning materials, and whether there were any personnel stranded in the surrounding area. ​

After receiving the report, the company's safety emergency leadership team immediately activated the "Factory Fire Emergency Response Plan", and each emergency team responded quickly:​

• The members of the evacuation guidance team carry emergency indicator lights and loudspeakers and quickly arrive at the entrances of various workshops and warehouses. They guide employees to cover their mouths and noses with pre prepared wet towels and gather along the designated evacuation route towards the central square of the park in the order of "low floors first, high floors second, key areas first, and ordinary areas second". The entire process only takes 3 minutes and 20 seconds to achieve safe evacuation for all personnel; ​

• The firefighting team wears fire-resistant clothing, carries dry powder fire extinguishers and fire hoses. After arriving at the "fire scene", they first alert and isolate the surrounding area of the warehouse, and then use the "left and right encirclement, aiming at the root of the fire source" firefighting method. In just one minute, they successfully controlled the "fire" and avoided the spread of the danger; ​

• The logistics support team will set up temporary material supply stations at the assembly point to provide drinking water and emergency medicine for the participating employees, and assist in counting the number of people to ensure that no one is missed. ​

Hand in hand teaching ensures that everyone masters the skills

When using a fire extinguisher, it is important to remember the four steps of 'lifting, pulling, holding, and pressing'. Especially when extinguishing flammable liquid fires such as paint fires, it is necessary to stand in the upwind direction to avoid flames rebounding! "At the drill site, the manager of the safety management department, Mr. Li, held the fire extinguisher and gave a detailed explanation and action demonstration to the employees present. To ensure that every employee can proficiently master fire safety skills, a "group practice" section is set up for the drill. Employees are divided into 6 groups by department, and each group is guided by a safety officer on site. From selecting fire extinguishers and adjusting spray angles to wearing fire masks, non-standard operations are corrected one by one. ​

I used to think that fire drills were far away from me, but this time I personally operated the fire extinguisher and realized that there are so many requirements for using equipment correctly! "Said Xiao Zhang, a newly hired production workshop employee, after practical operation. In response to the problem of "unfamiliar movements and missing details" in the operation of some old employees, the safety specialist also provides "one-on-one" coaching to ensure that both new and old employees can independently complete firefighting operations and self rescue protection. ​

In addition, after the drill, the entire staff was organized to carry out a "hidden danger investigation of fire protection facilities" activity, focusing on checking the water pressure of fire hydrants, the brightness of emergency lighting, and the integrity of safety exit signs in the workshop. Three problems were discovered and rectified on site, including "stacking cleaning tools in emergency passages" and "insufficient battery power of some smoke detectors and alarm batteries", truly implementing "prevention before it happens".​

Adhere to normalization and create a safety culture foundation​

The monthly fire drill is a 'fixed action' of Yazhan New Materials' safety management work, and it is not just a formality. "Wang, the deputy general manager of the company, emphasized at the drill summary meeting that as a new material production enterprise, the company involves various flammable materials such as resins and coatings, and fire safety is the 'lifeline' of production and operation. Since the implementation of the "monthly fire drill" system in 2023, the company has flexibly adjusted the drill scenarios based on seasonal characteristics and production pace - focusing on "material moisture prevention, ventilation and fire prevention" in spring, "emergency response to electrical equipment overheating" in summer, strengthening "warehouse stacking fire prevention" in autumn, and adding "dormitory electricity safety" related content in winter, making the drills more targeted and effective. ​
